New and Expanded Searching!

The Minnesota Historical Society is pleased to present a new way to search its historical photographs and artwork that visually represent Minnesotans, their lives, landscapes, leisure and occupations from the pre-territorial period to the present. With a newly expanded Collections Online and updated search interface, users have the ability to search for photographs, three dimensional and archaeological objects, artwork, oral histories, moving images, maps, and more! A single search can display items across many of our collections.

Featured Search

While we love the Winter Carnival (former Featured Search), we agree along with the weather outside that it is time to move on. Our current Featured Search focuses on gardens and gardening. It includes over 500 records from the 1850 to the present, and includes photographs, objects, and artwork.  A single simple search like this yields many interesting results across our collections – what might you find?

How to Use Collections Online

An instructional podcast has created to help users with the new search interface of Collections Online. The podcast provides sample searches, views of item records, tips on using the filters that refine searches, and demonstrates how to associate individuals with items in the collections including, but not limited to, photographs, 3-D objects and oral histories. Check out the new Collections Online for yourself and provide us with your feedback using the tab on the right.
